Could You Skip the Filling? The No-Drill Way to Treat Early Decay

Table of Contents

Overview

Curodont Repair is a no-drill, no-injection treatment for early tooth decay, and it’s now available at all eight Treeline Dental Care practices. Instead of drilling out a weak spot and filling it, your dentist paints Curodont onto the tooth and it helps the enamel rebuild itself. It only works on decay that’s caught early, before a hole forms, so regular check-ups matter more than ever.

Ask anyone about having a filling and you’ll probably get the same story. The numb lip that lasts all afternoon. The high-pitched whine of the drill. Trying to drink a cup of tea afterwards without dribbling it down your chin.

For a lot of people, that memory is the reason they put off booking a check-up. Not because they don’t care about their teeth, but because they’re worried about what might be found and what’ll happen next.

So here’s some good news. If decay is caught early enough, a filling might not be the answer any more.

Why Fillings Have Always Been the Go-To

Tooth decay usually starts quietly. Acids from the food and drink we have every day slowly draw minerals out of the enamel, leaving a weak, chalky patch. You won’t feel it and you probably won’t see it.

Until recently, dentists had two choices at that stage. Leave it and keep an eye on it, or wait until it had grown into a proper cavity and then fill it. Drilling into a tiny early spot would mean removing healthy tooth just to get to it, so watching and waiting was often the kindest option.

The catch is that decay rarely stops by itself. And once a tooth has a filling, it’s committed to a lifetime of maintenance. Fillings wear, get replaced and sometimes get bigger over the years.

A No-Drill Alternative for Early Decay

Curodont Repair, made by the Swiss dental company vVARDIS, gives dentists a third option.

It’s a liquid that’s painted onto the weak spot. Once it soaks in, it forms a tiny framework inside the enamel, a bit like scaffolding. That framework attracts calcium and phosphate from your own saliva, and over the next few weeks new enamel builds up where the decay had started.

No drill. No needle. Nothing taken away. Your tooth just gets a hand repairing itself.

Curodont vs a Traditional Filling

Here’s how the two compare side by side.

Treeline offers private dental care in partnership with the NHS, so your dentist will always talk you through the options and confirm any cost before going ahead.

So, Is This the End of Fillings?

Not quite, and we’d rather be upfront about that.

Curodont works on decay that’s still at the early stage, where the enamel is weakened but hasn’t broken down into a hole. Once it has become a cavity, a filling is still the right way to fix it.

What it does mean is that the timing of your check-ups matters more than ever. Spot decay early and you may have a gentler option. Leave it a couple of years and you’re more likely to be back to the drill.

When Curodont Makes the Most Sense

  • You’ve been told to “keep an eye on” a spot. Now there’s something you can actually do about it.
  • You’re nervous about the dentist. Treatment without a drill or needle can make a check-up feel a lot less daunting.
  • Your child has an early chalky patch. Treating it gently keeps their early dental visits calm and positive.
  • You’ve just finished braces or aligners. White marks left around brackets are one of the things Curodont is used to treat.

If it’s been a while since your last check-up, there’s no telling off here. Early decay is easier to deal with than it’s ever been, and the sooner we see you, the more options you’ll have.
