Root canal treatment (also called endodontic treatment) is used to remove infection from deep inside the tooth. It’s the best way to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be removed.

At Treeline Dental Care, we know that “root canal” doesn’t sound like a good time. But modern techniques mean the treatment is now safe, comfortable, and surprisingly straightforward. Our dentists take time to explain what’s happening, go at your pace, and make sure you feel calm and confident from start to finish.

Why Do People Come In For Root Canal Treatment?

  • You might have:
Tooth pain that lingers or throbs
  • A deep cavity that’s reached the nerve
  • Swelling or tenderness in the gums
  • A previous injury that’s damaged the tooth pulp
  • A visible abscess or darkening of the tooth

Sometimes symptoms are subtle, other times they’re hard to ignore. Either way, we’ll diagnose the issue and explain if a root canal is the right next step.

Benefits of Root Canal Treatment

  • Removes infection and prevents further damage
  • Saves your natural tooth instead of needing extraction
  • Stops pain and discomfort
  • Restores strength and function
  • Can be followed by a crown for long-term protection

How Much Does It Cost?

Root canal treatment is available both on the NHS (where clinically needed) and privately, depending on your situation and the complexity of the tooth.
Private treatment is often used for molars or re-root treatments and offers greater flexibility in scheduling and materials

What to Expect During Your Visit

We’ll begin with an x-ray to assess the tooth and surrounding tissue. After numbing the area, your dentist will carefully remove the infected pulp from inside the tooth, clean and disinfect the canals, then fill and seal the space.

Most root canal treatments take 1 – 2 visits depending on the complexity. Afterwards, we may recommend a crown to protect the tooth and restore full function.

Many patients are surprised by how comfortable the procedure feels, especially compared to the pain that brought them in!

FAQs: Root Canal Treatment

Not at all. With modern local anaesthetic, the procedure is usually painless. Most patients report that it feels no different from having a filling.

Most appointments take between 60 and 90 minutes, but it may require two visits depending on the tooth.

Not always, but for molars and heavily filled teeth, a crown adds strength and reduces the risk of future damage.

It’s rare, but if it does happen, re-treatment is usually possible. Good hygiene and regular check-ups reduce the risk.

Saving your natural tooth is usually the best long-term option for chewing and jaw health. Extraction is only recommended if the tooth can’t be saved.
